That will give you context for this page.<\/p>\n<hr width=\"50%\" \/>\n<p>Being a rock musician comes with a reputation, doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t it?<\/p>\n<p>Smart and cultured people play in orchestras or play folk music.<\/p>\n<p>Rock music is for the loud, the deviant, the not-as-talented, the disturbed.<\/p>\n<p>Rock musicians will surely end up earning scandalous stories in tabloids. And that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s if they even get enough renown to merit space in those cheap papers.<\/p>\n<p>I see the disappointment and disapproval in people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s eyes when they ask what kind of musician I am. As if rock is a lesser genre.<\/p>\n<p>As if my character has been proven lacking by my association. (Should I mention that some of the best people I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve know have been rock musicians or rock music lovers?)<\/p>\n<p>But let me tell you about rock music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amberbird.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/narockstar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amberbird.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/narockstar.jpg\" alt=\"Me performing\" width=\"500\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amberbird.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/narockstar.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.amberbird.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/narockstar-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rock is a broad umbrella, which is tough when I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m describing what music I make but is great because I feel like it can be a really inclusive term.<\/p>\n<p>Rock music is full of passion and has plenty of room for both the terribly talented and the ones whose talents aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t traditionally musical.<\/p>\n<p>Rock music lets me growl my anger or sob along to heartbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>Its dirty underbelly spoke to a younger and more broken me, allowed me to connect with it and, most importantly, be saved by it.<\/p>\n<p>Rock music has been the perfect soundtrack for rolling around with people I fancied or storming the dance floor. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s let me rage and let me bleed and let me swell with joy.<\/p>\n<p>Rock music&#8230;with its electric guitars but also its electric violins, not to mention acoustic instruments and a dizzying range of voices.<\/p>\n<p>That you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t appreciate rock music doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t make it bad. (Art is subjective. Your tastes don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t determine what is good.)<\/p>\n<p>That you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t appreciate it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t make it lesser or less worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p>I thrive here. My talents shine here. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s where I was born to be. And, oh, I am so far the opposite of ashamed.<\/p>\n<p>(Want to check out what I do?
